Autoresponders
What is an
Autoresponder?
An autoresponder is a
computer program (script or software) that sends an automated email
response. They can be simple or quite complex. An example of a
simple autoresponder is one that sends an "away on
vacation" response when an email is received. A more complex
autoresponder may add the inquirer's email address to a list and
possibly other personal information and may send a number of
sequential messages over time.
Autoresponders are
often used as email marketing tools to immediately provide
information to their prospective customers and then follow-up with
them at preset time intervals. Autoresponders are also incorporated into
email list software, to confirm subscriptions, process unsubscribe
requests and other list activities.
Why use an
Autoresponder?
Marketing studies have
documented that it often takes 5 or more exposures before a prospective customer will purchase a product or service. This is why major corporations
run continuous ads in numerous media, even if solely for name recognition.
The first time a person views your website or ad for your product or
service they may not be ready to make a purchase. They are likely to
forget about you and your website. An autoresponder is the needed solution to these problems to dramatically increase your
sales and customer retention. An autoresponder keeps your name and product or service in your prospective
customers or existing customers minds.
The most successful Internet Marketers admit that they make the MAJORITY of their income through
Email Marketing using autoresponders. If you are marketing online
and do not use an autoresponder- you are losing income... GUARANTEED!

Types of
Autoresponders
There are 3 main types
of autoresponders and each type has its advantages and
disadvantages. One disadvantage of all the types of autoresponders is that you will
have to learn how to use all the features but that is the way it is
with any computer program.
Autoresponder
Service: This type
of autoresponder is a service provided by an individual or company.
The autoresponder script is hosted on their server. You access the autoresponder via a web browser.
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
-
You pay a monthly
or annual fee.
-
You will
not be allowed to import purchased lists and may not be able to
import your own double opt-in lists.
-
The number of
messages that you send will depend on your fee.
Recommendations:
There is a big concern
about email deliverability, which refers to whether emails sent to your lists
are actually being delivered. The problem is that a lot of email
service providers may not accept a large number of emails sent from
the same source. If your autoresponder service provider has not pre-arranged to be whitelisted
then your
email may not be delivered.

Autoresponder
Software: This type of autoresponder is software that you buy
and install directly on your computer.
Advantages:
-
You buy the
software so there are no periodic fees.
-
You can import all
lists.
-
You can send unlimited
messages unless your ISP has a sending limit.
Disadvantages:
-
Your computer
needs to be online 24/7.
-
The autoresponder
software needs to stay open 24/7.
-
Your ISP may
terminate your service if you are accused of spamming.
-
All major ISPs are using DNS blacklists. If your domain name or IP address gets on their blacklist your emails will be rejected or will not be delivered.
Recommendations:
-

Autoresponder
Script: This type of autoresponder is a script that you buy and install
on a web server. The scripts are
written in PHP, Perl, ASP, or another scripted language. They
usually require a database backend such as mySQL.
You access the autoresponder via a web browser.
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
-
There will be a
sending limit unless you have a dedicated server but using a shared server
is fine unless you import large lists or have a lot of
subscribers.
-
You will pay a
monthly hosting fee. If you have a dedicated server it will cost more than the monthly fee
for an autoresponder service.
-
You must able to
install the autoresponder script unless you pay to have it done.
-
You must be able
to set-up a database and a cron job on the server unless you pay
to have it done.
-
All major ISPs are using DNS blacklists. If your domain name or IP address gets on their blacklist, your emails will be rejected or will not be delivered.

Manager. You can create unlimited email messages, which are automatically sent out to the subscribers of your mailing list at different time intervals.
